Check your site for SEO problems

Ask your assistant to check a page's basic SEO, whether Google has indexed it, and which error pages visitors reach.

Small technical problems can keep a page out of Google or make it look poor in results. MeasureScale lets your assistant check one page at a time for common problems. It can also ask Google whether a page is indexed and find error pages that visitors reach.

Questions to ask

Check a page

  • “Check the SEO of my homepage.”
  • “Does my chocolate cake recipe page have a good title and description?”
  • “Is anything telling Google not to show my shop page?”

Check Google’s view

  • “Is my new pricing page indexed in Google?”
  • “Are my sitemaps in Search Console showing errors?”

Find broken pages

  • “Which 404 pages do visitors land on?”
  • “Do several of my pages compete for the same search?”

A good conversation

Here is an example of how a conversation can go.

  1. You ask: “Check the SEO of my cake order page.” The assistant fetches the page and checks its title, description, main heading and other basics. It lists each check as passed, a warning or a failure.
  2. You ask: “Is that page in Google?” The assistant asks Google whether the page is indexed. Indexed means Google has stored the page and can show it in results.
  3. You ask: “Which error pages do people reach?” The assistant lists pages whose title says “404”, with how often visitors saw them.

Reading the answer

  • A failure means search engines cannot use the page or are told to skip it. A warning is a suggestion.
  • The title and description length limits are common rules of thumb. They are not Google rules.
  • The check reads the page as your server sends it. Content that scripts add later is not checked.
  • The check covers one page per question. It does not crawl your whole site, and it does not check links or speed.
  • Error pages are found by their title. A normal page that mentions “404” can show up too.

Tips

  • Give the full address of the page you want checked.
  • Check your most important pages first, such as your homepage and best sellers.
  • Google limits how many index checks a site can make each day. Ask about earlier checks to reuse their answers.
  • If your error page title does not say “404”, tell the assistant what it says, such as “Page not found”.
