Read and write tools

Most tools only read. A few tools change data you keep in MeasureScale. No tool changes anything in Google.

Most MeasureScale tools only read data. A small set of tools change data that you keep inside MeasureScale. No tool changes anything in Google.

What the write tools change

The write tools create, update and delete these MeasureScale records:

  • Annotations, such as “site migration on 3 March”
  • Content groups
  • Topic clusters
  • SEO experiments

These records belong to your MeasureScale account. They help the analyses group pages and explain changes.

Write access

A tool that writes needs write access. MeasureScale has two access levels:

Access level Shown on the approval page as
Read Read your Search Console and Analytics data
Write Save and change your own MeasureScale organisation data: annotations, content groups, topic clusters and experiments. MeasureScale never changes anything in Google

Write access includes read access. Your AI app gets write access only when it asks for it and you approve. An API key gets write access when you create it as Read and write.

Without write access, your assistant says it needs permission to make changes. To fix it, approve the app again and allow changes.

Confirmation before a change

Tools that overwrite or delete a record ask you to confirm first.

  • Newer AI clients show a confirmation prompt such as “Update annotation: confirm this change”. If you decline, nothing changes.
  • Older clients must confirm inside the request itself. Without that confirmation, nothing changes.

A confirmation is valid for 10 minutes.

URL inspection

URL inspection asks Google for the index status of one URL. MeasureScale adds the answer to the property’s inspection history. Each call uses one of the site’s daily URL inspections at Google. It does not change your site or your Search Console settings, so it works with read-only access.

Google permissions stay read-only

MeasureScale asks Google only for read-only access to Search Console and Analytics. See Google permissions.
