# Google permissions

> The Google permissions MeasureScale asks for, why it needs each one, and why it never asks to change your Google data.

MeasureScale asks Google for read-only access to Search Console and Google Analytics. It does not ask for any permission that changes your Google data.

## The permissions

| Shown by Google as | Used for |
|---|---|
| View Search Console data for your verified sites | Search Console reports, URL inspection, sitemaps and the analyses built on them |
| See and download your Google Analytics data | GA4 reports, ecommerce, key events and the analyses built on them |

MeasureScale also asks for your Google account's email address. It uses it to identify which Google account you connected.

## Why read-only

Every active MeasureScale tool reads from Google. No tool submits sitemaps, adds properties or changes settings in your Google accounts. MeasureScale checks this rule automatically before it releases a tool.

The [write tools](/concepts/read-and-write-tools/) change only records you keep inside MeasureScale.

## Granting part of the access

On Google's screen you can clear one of the permissions. MeasureScale stores only what you grant.

- Without Search Console access, questions about Search Console return a message to reconnect and allow that access.
- Without Analytics access, questions about GA4 return the same kind of message.

To add the missing access, [reconnect Google](/troubleshooting/reconnect-google/) and allow it.

## Removing access at Google

You can remove MeasureScale's access from your Google account settings at any time. MeasureScale then cannot read your data. Your assistant asks you to reconnect Google. To remove access from inside MeasureScale, disconnect the account under **Connections**. See [connect Search Console and GA4](/getting-started/connect-google/#disconnect-a-google-account).
