# AI client setup

> Add MeasureScale to ChatGPT, Claude or another AI client, approve access and check that it works.

You add MeasureScale to your AI assistant once. Every assistant uses the same MeasureScale address. Only the place you enter it changes.

## The address to enter

```text
https://mcp.measurescale.com/mcp
```

Copy it exactly, including `/mcp` at the end.

Assistants change their menus often. If a step below does not match your screen, search your assistant's help for "custom connector".

## ChatGPT

Add MeasureScale to ChatGPT yourself:

1. In ChatGPT, open the connector settings.
2. Turn on developer mode if your plan needs it.
3. Add a remote MCP server with the name `MeasureScale` and the address above.
4. Approve access on the MeasureScale page that opens. See [approve access](#approve-access).

## Claude

Add MeasureScale to Claude as a custom connector:

1. In Claude, open the connector settings.
2. Add a custom connector.
3. Enter the name `MeasureScale` and the address above.
4. Choose to connect.
5. Approve access on the MeasureScale page that opens. See [approve access](#approve-access).

## Which plan do I need?

Your AI provider decides which of its plans allow custom connectors. OpenAI decides this for ChatGPT. Anthropic decides this for Claude. Check your provider's plan details if you cannot find the connector settings.

## Gemini

Add MeasureScale in a Gemini app that supports custom connectors.

- The consumer Gemini app supports this only in some regions. It is for users 18 and over with personal Google accounts.
- In Gemini Enterprise, an administrator adds MeasureScale for the organization.

## Approve access

The first time your assistant connects, it opens a MeasureScale page titled **Authorize an AI app**.

1. Sign in to MeasureScale if the page asks you to.
2. Connect Google if you have not done so. The page shows **Connect Google to continue** until you do.
3. Check the assistant's name and the list under **It will be able to**.
4. Choose **Approve**.

You must confirm your email address before you can approve. Open the sign-in link in your inbox to confirm it.

The page shows a label for each assistant:

- **Verified app** means MeasureScale registered the assistant in advance.
- **Unverified app** means the assistant registered itself when it connected.
- **Client hosted at** shows the web address that describes the assistant.

## How long an approval lasts

Your assistant renews its access on its own, so you do not approve it every day. The approval ends after 30 days without use. It always ends after 90 days. After that, your assistant opens the approval page again.

An approval keeps the access you chose. To give an assistant permission to make changes, approve it again and allow changes. See [read and write tools](/concepts/read-and-write-tools/).

## Remove an assistant

1. In the portal, open **AI apps**.
2. Find the assistant. The list shows its access, when you approved it and when it was last used.
3. Choose **Revoke**, then **Revoke access**.

The assistant loses access at once.

## Check the connection

1. Ask your assistant "Which properties can you see in MeasureScale?".
2. Check that it lists your sites.

If it cannot find MeasureScale, read [your assistant can't find MeasureScale or a tool](/troubleshooting/tools-missing/). If it finds MeasureScale but not your site, read [you don't see your website](/troubleshooting/site-missing/).

## Other AI clients and developer options

This section is for developer tools and custom setups. Your client must support remote MCP servers.

### Claude Code

Run this command in your terminal:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http measurescale https://mcp.measurescale.com/mcp
```

Then run `/mcp` inside Claude Code and authenticate MeasureScale. Approve access on the page that opens in your browser. You can add the server for one project or for all your projects. Your MeasureScale sign-in belongs to your account, not to the project.

### Cursor

Add MeasureScale to your Cursor `mcp.json` file:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "measurescale": { "url": "https://mcp.measurescale.com/mcp" }
  }
}
```

### VS Code

Add MeasureScale to your VS Code `mcp.json` file:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "measurescale": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.measurescale.com/mcp" }
  }
}
```

Cursor and VS Code read different keys. Check your editor's MCP help if the keys have changed.

### Clients that cannot open the approval page

Some scripts and clients cannot show a browser page. Use an API key for these. Only an account owner with a confirmed email can create one.

1. In the portal, open **API keys**.
2. Create a key and give it a **Name**.
3. Choose the **Scope**. Choose **Read only** unless the client must change your MeasureScale data.
4. Choose when it **Expires**: **Never**, **In 30 days**, **In 90 days** or **In 1 year**.
5. Under **Properties**, allow all properties or only the ones you choose.
6. Choose **Create key**.
7. Copy the key. The portal shows it only once.
8. Enter the key in your client's settings for MeasureScale.

A key limited to some properties works only for those properties.

To stop a key working, open **API keys**, choose **Revoke** on the key, then **Revoke key**. Requests with it fail at once.
